Abbey returns? Well I’ve heard Stranger Things
WHAT a night. Abbey returns (maybe) and some things about... Stranger Things.
Yes, it’s another glitzy awards night at the Emmys, the Oscars for the telly industry.
One of the first people I bumped into on the red carpet was my old pal Julian Fellowes, the creator of the fantastic Downton Abbey.
He was there with his partner Emma Kitchener, who assists Julian in writing his superb scripts.
But I wondered if we really had seen the back of Lady Grantham and the gang. I asked Julian if the rumours of a movie were true.
“I’d love to make one and, as far as I’m concerned, I’m completely up for it,” said Julian. “And I think the cast are completely up for it, too.
“It’s not our decision though, it’s up to NBC (who own the rights) but I’d be happy to go with it.”
Whether it goes ahead or not, I wondered if Julian was worried whether he’ll ever have another hit like Downton.
“You can’t think like that or you’ll just go crazy,” he told me. “You just have to bang on with the next thing.
“I’ve got School Of Rock opening in November, then I’m working on a show called The Gilded Age for NBC.
“The trick is to keep moving – that way they can’t get you!”
I also spoke to Joanne Froggatt, who plays Anna in the period drama. Would she be up for Downton Goes To Hollywood?
“Of course I am,” she said. “We all are. I don’t think there’s anybody on the cast who doesn’t want to do it.
“It’s just the logistics of getting everyone together, but we’re all up for it.” So there you have it! Speaking of fantastic TV shows… I presume you’ve watched Stranger Things?
It’s a smash-hit from streaming service Netflix. So remember the name Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the mysterious Eleven in the sci-fi show.
Although born in Spain, she was raised in the UK and I grabbed a chat with her at the Emmys, where she told me how much she’s enjoying going from being largely unknown to unbelievably famous.
“It’s crazy,” she said. “Back in England I’m not known very much. I can’t walk down the street.
“It’s nice to come home and just go to Tesco!” How famous is she going to be? On a scale of one to 10 – I’m going to say Eleven!
