SNP return for Thomson put on hold
MICHELLE THOMSON’S bid to be readmitted to the SNP has been put on ice by party bosses.
The controversial MP hit the headlines last year when she withdrew from the SNP whip amid an ongoing police investigation into property deals.
Ms Thomson, MP for Edinburgh West, denies any wrongdoing after being linked with property deals involving Christopher Hales, a solicitor who was struck off for professional misconduct by the Scottish Solicitors’ Disciplinary Tribunal in May 2014 in connection with 13 transactions in 2010 and 2011.
The Westminster group of SNP MPs had put forward a motion to yesterday’s SNP national executive committee, calling for it to “urgently consider the position of Michelle Thomson MP, with a view to accepting her back into party membership and therefore to the parliamentary whip”.
The motion had unanimous support from the MPs but the matter has been put on hold for now.
A party spokesman said: “There was no substantive discussion. The matter was continued for further consideration.”
Ms Thomson has been sitting as an independent MP in the House of Commons since, and has not yet been contacted by police. At the outset of the investigation last year they said she was not personally the focus of their probe.
