Five Lose Dad In The Garden Centre Vincent Bruno, Quercus, £7.99

The latest offering in Bruno’s hilarious adult take on Enid Blyton’s Famous Five sees the gang celebrate Father’s Day by taking stuffy old Uncle Quentin to the garden centre to buy a new shed.

But it all goes haywire when he disappears.

It’s humorous, but even more Blyton-esque and not quite as funny as its predecessors.

OUR VERDICT 6/10

Uncommon People David Hepworth, Bantam Press, £20

This perceptive, charming and often humorous book is a captivating essay in the rise and fall of the rock star.

It starts with Little Richard and ends after the death of Kurt Cobain in 1994.

It asks what we saw in them, and how they shaped us.

It’s not simply their story, it’s ours, too.

OUR VERDICT 9/10

The Curry Guy Dan Toombs, Quadrille, £12.99

If you’re looking to make a great curry in a rush, this book is not for you.

You have to be prepared to do the groundwork, but once you’ve mastered the art of making the base sauce in batches and pre-cooking the meat, you can make fantastic restaurant standard curries quickly and easily.

This book is worth every penny.
