A BODY has been discovered in the search for a missing man in Aberdeenshire.

Police Scotland confirmed the dead man is Graeme Leslie, 62, who was reported missing from the village of St Cyrus on July 14.

The discovery was made earlier on Saturday by specialist officers during searches in the area. The RNLI had been involved in the searches.

A police spokesman said: “Formal identification has yet to take place, however the 62-year-old’s next of kin have been informed of the development.”

Mr Leslie was known to frequent pubs in the Montrose and Dundee areas.

Neighbours reported a possible sighting of him at his home in Scotston Place, St Cyrus, near Montrose, on July 17.

It is understood officers discovered the body in the open in St Cyrus.

Mr Lesie made headlines last year after he spent his first week of married life on remand in Perth prison following a wedding day bust-up.

He and his bride, Margaret Leslie, were arrested three hours after they tied the knot on September 12.

The wedding had only been allowed to go ahead after bail conditions banning the pair from seeing each other were lifted just a week before the ceremony.

Mr and Mrs Leslie got hitched in Montrose – his third wedding and her second – before hosting a small reception for friends at a local pub.

But the evening descended into chaos with Mrs Leslie later screaming at a woman in the street: “You’ve ruined my wedding day – I’ll kill you.”

Mr Leslie, a former Royal Artillery solider who served in Falklands and Northern Ireland – then threatened the officers who arrested him.

Mr Leslie was later sentenced to two months imprisonment.
