Throne off balance by Ed’s cameo

GAME OF THRONES (SKY ATLANTIC)

A COMMON criticism of Game Of Thrones is how it’s unrealistic, but I’m not sure that’s accurate.

In fact as the seventh series began on Sky Atlantic last week, it looks as if the fantasy world of Westeros is increasingly resembling modern-day Britain.

For starters there’s a weakened female leader terrified of being replaced by an increasingly popular rival.

Then there’s the winter weather, which signals the end of the world in Game Of Thrones land, much as a bit of snow does here, too.

And thirdly, it seems that Ed Sheeran is inescapable.

Just when you thought guitar-strumming Ed couldn’t get around more, up popped old Cabbage Patch Doll face somewhere south of Winterfell.

Luckily the new Doctor Who has already been cast.

Of course, they could drop Jedward into proceedings and it wouldn’t ruin Thrones.

Rory McCann returned as The Hound, the scarred mercenary on an unlikely – but very sweary – path to redemption.

Meanwhile, up north, the reunited siblings Jon Snow and Sansa Stark bickered with each other as assorted noblemen pledge allegiance. Game of Thrones is 30% pledges of allegiance.

Of course everyone is worried about the White Walkers, the evil army who are invading very, very slowly.

There are still more plots going on than in the Conservative Party, but increasingly the characters are beginning to focus on the big question.

Is Ed going to be in the next episode?

LOvE ISLANd (ITv2)

THE last time I wrote about Love Island I gave it a bit of a hammering.

It’s drawn to a close now – and I still hate it. So why have I watched every episode?
