McInnes hails Dons’ response

DEREK McINNES reckons Shay Logan owed Aberdeen his winner against Ross County – because he gifted the Staggies their opener.

Logan’s strike – his fourth in his last four visits to Dingwall – secured a valuable comeback victory for the Dons.

According to his manager, it was a fitting conclusion to a game his side deserved to win.

“I didn’t expect Shay to give the goal away after two minutes,” said McInnes.

“I thought we started half asleep. It wasn’t great.

“But the response was excellent after the first 15, 20 minutes.

“My team’s determination to win the game was evident and it’s fitting that Shay got the goal.

“For him to make up that ground from the touch-line on the far side to get to the back stick says everything about him.

“He put his hands up for the first goal but he’s more than repaid it.

“He deserves the limelight of the winning goal and his record up here is incredible considering he can’t score against anyone else!

“A lot of them have been winners too, they’ve been about that real desire to get into the back stick.

“Shay is a good finisher, but it is unusual to have that sort of record against the one team.”

Logan’s fellow defender Mark Reynolds had drawn the Dons level before half-time with a stunning volley.

Asked for his take on the centrehalf’s “stunner”, McInnes couldn’t help himself.

“That’s the first time anybody has ever said that,” he joked.

“He caught it so sweet. It was a lovely finish. I don’t even think he was supposed to be there, but he should be pleased with it. It was a brilliant effort.

“And I thought that by and large we played a lot of good stuff. We controlled the second half and a lot of the first half.

“The lads that came in all did well – I thought Stevie May had a brilliant debut, bar scoring.

“He’ll be disappointed with that, but he’ll get there. He showed exactly what he is going to be for us.”
