Elvis had a twin. On January 8, 1935, Elvis Aron Presley was born at his parents’ two-room house in East Tupelo, Mississippi, about 35 minutes after his identical twin brother, Jesse Garon, who was stillborn.

Elvis’ famous black hair was dyed – his natural colour was brown.

Elvis bought Graceland when he was 22. He shelled out $102,500 for the Memphis Mansion that served as his home for the next two decades.

In 1947, a local radio show offered a young Elvis (age 12) a chance to sing live on air, but he was too shy to go on.

Elvis served in the Army after he was famous. He was drafted into the US Army in December 1957, earning a $78 monthly salary. During his brief stint on active duty, he was unable to access his income of $400,000.

At 18, Elvis paid $4 to make his first record, a gift for his mama.

Elvis never performed outside of North America. With the exception a handful of concerts he gave in Canada in 1957, he never performed on foreign soil. Sources have suggested that his manager, Colonel Parker, turned down lucrative offers to perform abroad because Parker was an illegal immigrant.

Elvis was 6 feet tall and wore a size 11 shoe.

Elvis holds records for the most Top 40 hits (104), the most Top 10 hits (38) and the most weeks at Number One (80). During his “concert years” from 1969 to 1977, Elvis gave nearly 1,100 concert performances.

Elvis purchased his first guitar when he was just 11 years old. He wanted a rifle, but his mama convinced him to get a guitar instead.

Graceland is one of the most visited homes in America today, now attracting over 600,000 visitors annually.
