THE KIRKLANDS, 20 HIGH ST, KINROSS

1 LOCATION

In the heart of lovely Kinross, it’s a couple of minutes off the M90 but you’d never know it – it’s a charming place with shops and cafes.

2 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

Kirklands is an oasis of calm and charm. With stripped wooden floors, comfy, squashy seats and a big smile from our waitress on arrival, we immediately feel at home.

3 SERVICE

It’s quietly efficient. Our waitress knows a thing or two about the new gins on sale, too, which is handy for our cocktail lovers.

4 MENU

We’re eating at lunchtime and the menu is wide-ranging, from posh toasties, to lovely salad bowls to delicious vegetarian options. We’re a big group, of all ages and tastes and there’s something for everyone.

5 TASTE

The most popular choice in our group is Omelette Arnold Bennett – the poor chef has a lot of eggs to crack to keep us happy! It’s made with smoked haddock, cheddar and hollandaise sauce and served with skinny fries and is all-round delicious. The chargrilled chicken breast burger is great, too.

6 PRICE

You’ll pay £10.95 for a burger, chips and all the trimmings and £6.50 for a chicken, bacon and avocado salad bowl. Puddings start at £4.95.

7 AMBIENCE

That oasis of calm and charm that we first encountered? The calm soon disappears as the lunchtime rush hots up. There’s one gang in for coffee, cake and a celebration and they liven the place up no end – that’s what happens when you’re dining with toddlers and young ‘uns!

8 SOMETHING SPECIAL

A special mention has to go to the turbo gin and tonic – that’s gin, espresso and tonic. As our waitress persuades us, it’s all our favourite vices in one gorgeous glass! Oh, and the lime and coconut brulee is a winner, too.

Clean and well-maintained.
