Things are hotting up in baking battle

-

IT’S getting all hot and bothered in the genteel world of cakes, scones and crumpets and it looks like war has broken out.

Of course, it all started when Channel Four bid big bucks to steal the hugely successful Great British Bake Off recipe from the BBC.

Although, when the dust settled, it turned out to be a pretty soggy soufflé.

All they were left with was Paul Hollywood and a big, empty tent after the divine Mary, Mel and Sue decided not to jump ship.

The BBC launched the first missile in this battle of the buns with the very jolly Big Family Cooking Showdown starring former Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussein.

The Beeb struck before the launch of Channel Four’s version of GBBO a week on Tuesday at 8pm, which is the same night and in the exact same time slot as the BBC show.

It could have been the mother of all ratings battles but, to avoid a clash, the Beeb are moving Nadiya’s show to a Thursday, which is good news for lovers of cake, but does nothing to calm the bad feeling between the rival channels.

I reckon the only way to settle things once and for all is for everyone concerned to take part in a giant food fight like the one at the end of the movie Bugsy Malone where all the kids ended up covered in jam and cream and with a custard pie in the face.
