JK says hand-writing stories is still magical

-

HARRY POTTER author JK Rowling has revealed that she still writes stories by hand.

It’s 20 years since the author first wrote the boy wizard books, that made her a multi- millionaire, in Edinburgh cafes.

But answering fans’ questions last week the author said despite the advances in technology over the past two decades she still loves to write by hand.

Rowling said: “I do write by hand a lot, especially first drafts and plotting.”

She added she also uses a “glitchy old laptop with the broken keys” to write her novels despite her millions in the bank.

And she had even damaged her shoulder from lugging around the old computer and had lost some of her work thanks to a corrupted file.

The novelist has bought a new Macbook to replace her old machine but says it’s not the same.

“It’s sitting here looking very sleek and smug,” she said. “I expect it’ll feel friendlier once I’ve bashed it up a bit.”

Rowling finished her manuscript for the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, on an old manual typewriter.

She can certainly afford an upgrade now as the 2016 Sunday Times Rich List estimated her fortune at £600 million.

Theme park earnings from a US Harry Potter attraction and a play have also boosted her coffers.
