No panic at Dundee despite run

DEFIANT Dundee manager Neil McCann says there’s no need to panic despite the club’s worst start to a league season in 19 years.

You have to go back to 1998 for the last time the Dens Park men lost their first three games of the new campaign.

However, McCann is convinced they are good enough to start picking up points despite facing Hibs at home and a trip to Ibrox in their next two matches.

That looks like a daunting prospect with so many players out injured at the moment and Marcus Haber along with Faissal El Bakhtaoui joined that list yesterday.

Despite that, McCann said: “We will go again. There is no panic and I believe we should be looking at three points. But if you don’t take chances in this game then you get nothing.

“I thought Aberdeen were the better side in the early part of the match but after we got to grips with things we more than held our own.

“When we get an equaliser we had Scott Allan missing a chance. It’s hypothetical but if we take that chance then I think we could have gone on and won the game.

“We were certainly in the ascendancy. We coped with all that Aberdeen were throwing at us.

“In fact I think we played well enough in our last two games to have three or four points on the board by now but we won’t feel sorry for ourselves.”

Dundee didn’t exactly get the breaks at Pittodrie as they were down to nine men when Stevie May scored the winning goal for Aberdeen with 11 minutes left.

Haber and El Bakhtauoi were off injured and referee Kevin Clancy didn’t allow a hold up in play to let McCann get his replacements on in time. He added: “It’s a sore one to lose a game of football in that way. It’s so hard to take losing a goal when we were down to nine men.

“I felt we had our subs ready and we were asking the boys to come off so we had to wait before we could push the button.

“I felt the boys were ready to go on but it was all happening that fast as I was trying to organise things but the referee wanted the throw-in taken. It’s gut wrenching.”
