Taking control of your legal and financial matters

-

Have you been putting off writing your will or appointing a Power of attorney?

Almost 20% of people who haven’t written a will have failed to do so because they don’t want to think about death.

And a further 13% say that they haven’t done it because they are worried about the cost.

And many people are reluctant to name a Power of Attorney because they are worried they will lose control of their own decisions, whether financial or medical.

But setting up a Power of Attorney can ensure that if you are in a situation where you cannot make decisions yourself, someone is in place to make those decisions for you.

A lot of people feel that they don’t actually have the need for a will – perhaps they don’t have many assets to pass on or no one to pass them on to.

However, a will is about more than just who gets what after you’ve gone.

It can be instructions on your wishes for your funeral, arrangements for closing online or offline accounts or even just who you would like to take care of the dog!

Trained solicitors are in a position not only to help you draft a Power of Attorney document, but also carry out the required interview before it can be completed.

The interview is held to confirm that you fully understand the Power of Attorney and once they are satisfied, the solicitor can then sign a certificate saying so.

They can also help write wills that cover an individual’s specific situation – and they will have seen even the most complicated matters so can help in very non-traditional families or financial set-ups.

So don’t put it off anymore – put your mind at ease by taking some time to meet with a solicitor and get your will or Power of Attorney organised.
