A fresh look at your wardrobe
“DRESSING your age” went out with legwarmers in the ’80s. Nowadays it’s all about wearing clothes that make you feel good – regardless of how many candles are on your birthday cake! Follow these top tips from our sister publication, No. 1 Magazine.
Find good underwear
You want a smooth silhouette. Lumps and bumps caused by ill-fitting underwear makes you look bigger than you are. Bras worn regularly should be replaced every 12 months.
Put knitwear to the test
Gently stretch the fabric and, if it quickly springs back to the original shape, it’s a good quality piece.
Use a personal shopper
Most people don’t realise you don’t usually pay for this service. Instead you just supply a run-down of what you need and staff will pull out the stock for you to try on. It’s a great way to try a different look.
Consider costume jewellery
It’s a quick and inexpensive way to update your look. A statement necklace or a pair of show-stopping earrings can make the difference between a nice outfit and a fabulous one.
Lighten your look
Most of our wardrobes include a healthy dose of dark colours. However, they can be a little draining and make skin tones look washed out. Try to mix dark pieces with splashes of colour.
Wear a wrap dress
One of the most flattering styles on the market, this clever design helps women achieve the coveted hourglass shape. The V neckline helps ‘lengthen’ the body, making you appear taller.
Set the tone
It’s no longer a style rule that you must match your shoes and handbag. Instead, try to keep everything in a similar tone as opposed to the exact colour shade.
Leave your comfort zone
Try a shop you wouldn’t normally venture into. Some that seem to target ‘younger’ shoppers have products relevant to every age group. For example, New Look has an incredible range of accessories, H&M do a great plus-size range and Topshop do a superb range of quality basics.
