Kamara never lies about food!
THESE days, he earns his bread in Dundee. But Glen Kamara can’t wait to taste home comforts after his first Finland call-up in two years.
The 21-year-old was snapped up by Neil McCann in the summer following his release by Arsenal.
His performances in midfield have been a major plus point in the murk of the Dark Blues’ threedefeat opening to the season.
Now, having being honoured with a call-up for the World Cup qualifiers against Iceland and Kosovo, Kamara revealed he can’t wait for his first taste of home since 2015.
“I was born in Finland and I lived in a place called Espoo until I was 12,” said the 21-year-old. “My parents moved there from Sierra Leone before I was born.
“It was good growing up there. I miss it sometimes, but I miss the food most. I’m a big foodie.
“I love Finnish bread and pastries and my favourite dish is called makar onilaatikko, a pasta and meat dish.
“It was different moving from there to London. I didn’t like it at first, but got used to it.
“I still feel Finnish. I was born there, I speak the language fluently, so that’s it. It’s my home.
“Before we moved to London I used to see stuff on the news – bad stuff – and I’d think: ‘Nah, I don’t want to go there!’ But my mum always wanted to live in England, so we went. “Thankfully, I got used to it. “I haven’t been back to Finland for a couple of years, so I’m really looking forward to it.
“I’m going to stock up on bread – and sweets! Definitely sweets!”
Before he jets off, Kamara faces a tasty clash with Hibs today.
“I’m happy with how things are going here,” admitted Kamara.
“The results haven’t been what we wanted as a team, but personally I’m quite happy.
“I haven’t seen Hibs yet, I only know them from what the manager has said.
“But the league is good, it’s played at a good pace and there is some tough tackling, which I like.
“Nothing about it has sprung up and made me think: ‘Oh my god!’
“I came here to get regular games and show what I can do. Now I just have to carry that on.”
