Marvellous memories of spectacular Malaga
A FAMILIAR face to millions as a regular reporter on BBC1’s The One Show, Kevin Duala has also worked on Holiday, Allsorts, Property Boot Camp and is still recognised from his days on kids’ TV show Blues Clues.
Liverpudlian Kevin now lives in Brighton with his wife, Steph, and their three kids.
S the youngest child of four growing up in Toxteth, holidays weren’t always on our to-do list, but we never went without.
Both my parents worked long shifts so family time together in the summer meant getting away in our Vauxhall Viva with our dog, Judy, to the small market town of Pwhelli, North Wales.
We’d rent a caravan, and spend endless days on the beach or at the theme park, eating chips and ice cream, soaking up the sun – or rain!
I’ve been lucky enough to travel to some amazing destinations but none as important as Pwhelli, and what it taught me.
Now with my own family, holidays are precious moments away from phones and the trappings of everyday living.
More importantly, they’re a time for both relaxing and daring ourselves to get off the beaten track.
Having lived in southern Spain for some years, my ideal destination would be the beautiful city of Malaga.
It’s a world apart from the adjoining Costa Del Sol and there is much to enjoy that won’t be familiar.
If you’re after beach and culture then look no further – Malaga City has it all within walking distance.
The Picasso Museum, The Roman Theatre, the Arab Baths and the Alcazaba, an ancient Arabic fortress, are all worth a visit.
Malaga is a glorious mix of modern and ancient history, side by side.
If it’s food, wine and beaches that float your boat, the fish bars of El Palo and the golden sands of La Malagueta are where you should head for grilled sardines, ice cold fino and skies as blue as the water.
And if it’s a view to die for on your last night then save the best till last and head toward the exquisite Parador Gibralfaro, situated in the old quarter, high above the city surrounded by pine trees and large skies for drinks and an outdoor table.
With a vista over the bay and rooftops to take your breath away, an evening here creates memories you will never forget.
