LEEDS UNITED continued their unbeaten start to the season with an impressive display in beating Nottingham Forest.

Kemar Roofe, who scored a hat-trick against Newport in the EFL Cup on Tuesday, smartly headed the opening goal midway through the first half.

As Forest poured forward after the break, it was Leeds who looked the more likely to score again – and Ezgjan Alioski’s late strike secured victory.

Leeds, along with Cardiff, are the only side in the second tier without a loss.

Leeds have now won three and drawn two of their first five league fixtures – having gone five games without a win at the end of 2016-17.

Under Danish head coach Thomas Christiansen, they were able to back up their victory at Sunderland with another fine display away from Elland Road.

Forest, who had won three of their four opening games, went behind when Liam Cooper kept a set-piece alive and Roofe found the bottom corner from close range.

Mark Warburton’s side were well short of their best and, even after Alioski superbly made it 2-0 from 20 yards, could have been punished further only for Samuel Saiz and Stuart Dallas to blast wide when well placed.

Christiansen said: “I believe this could possibly have been our best game yet. I am not only happy but very proud as well.”

The Leeds boss was delighted with his side’s fourth consecutive clean sheets in the league.

“It’s great for confidence, but it’s also the work of the wingers and strikers,” he said.

On new signing Jay-Roy Grot, he said: “It was good to see him. He is strong and also we had a targetman who could keep the ball.”
