HIGHLAND League leaders Cove Rangers breezed into the Third Round of the Irn- Bru Cup, demolishing an enthusiastic yet ultimately naive Hamilton Accies U-20s.

The visitors took the lead with quarter of an hour gone as Jamie Mass on teed up an innocuous free-kick.

Accies keeper Alex Marshall must have been deceived by the flight of the ball as the midfielder’s effort eluded him to nestle in the top corner.

Hamilton centre- half Shaun Want displayed immaturity, needlessly hauling down Eric Watson in the box to gift the Toonsers a penalty.

Former Aberdeen starlet Mitch Meggison stepped up and dispatched the spot-kick straight down the middle.

Megginson grabbed his brace a couple of minutes later, capitalising on some good build-up play from strike partner Paul McManus to finish from six yards out.

Ryan Tierney almost pulled a goal back for the home side with a deft header, but McKenzie got his fingertips to the ball.

Accies finally managed to forge something productive eight minutes after the restart.

Marc Kelly got behind the Rangers defence to square for Jack Breen to tap in a consolation.
