Teenager in hospital badly hurt in hit-and-run

-

A teenager is in a serious condition in hospital after a hit-and-run incident.

The 17-year-old was part of a group crossing a busy Glasgow road on Friday night when a car drove into them, before driving off.

Police are now trying to determine whether the incident was a targeted attack, which comes just days after an attempted murder involving two vehicles in the city.

Earlier this week, a BMW was deliberately driven at a Vectra in Springburn, leaving a 32-year-old man in a serious condition.

At the end of March this year, a 14-year-old girl was left with a broken neck when a car was driven at a group of children in Castlemilk.

The latest incident, which took place on Friday around 5.10pm, involved a silver Mazda which crashed into a four men on Westmuir Street in Parkhead.

The injured teenager is now in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in a serious but stable condition, having been transferred from the Royal Infirmary.

Police later found the silver Mazda abandoned on Silverdale Street, which is now being forensically tested.

Detective Inspector James Biggam said: “This incident has left a young man seriously injured and it’s imperative we trace the occupants of the silver coloured car.

“We are still trying to piece together the exact circumstances of what has happened and the reasoning for it.

“I am appealing to the local community to get in touch with us.”
