More reveal concern at cold-callers

-

Two weeks ago we revealed how vulnerable Scots are being chased for hundreds of pounds by a cold-calling PPI-style claims company.

Resolution Claims staff phone people offering to retrieve thousands of pounds from endowment insurance policies in a similar manner to no-win/no-fee cases.

But customers signing up say they are quickly bombarded with texts and phone calls demanding a £395 upfront fee, with small-print terms and conditions cited as proof of an “agreement”.

A number of concerned Raw Deal readers who handed over money to Resolution Claims say calls and texts to the company have gone unanswered in recent weeks and emails are bouncing back.

Following our story, more readers have contacted Raw Deal warning about other such companies.

Janette Niven, from Edinburgh, was in touch to say she handed over more than £450 to a company called Claimline Direct, based in Swansea, who said they would find out if she was due back any compensation for mis-sold PPI contracts.

Two years later she says she has still heard nothing and has been unable to contact the company in recent weeks.

Now the legal ombudsman has highlighted concerns about Claimline Direct UK Ltd “after receiving more than 100 complaints and completing 69 investigations into their handling of PPI claims”.

For the ombudsman, the key areas of concerns about Claimline Direct UK Limited are:

They are not progressing the claims or updating their customers.

They are not refunding the fees of £495.

Wanda Goldwag, chairwoman of the Office for Legal Complaints, said: “We are concerned that consumers may continue to purchase a service from Claimline Direct UK Ltd that will not be delivered.”
