Horsing around left a few grumpy gardeners

The Sunday Post (Newcastle) - - OPINION -

When I was five years old I lived in Jedburgh and, across the road from home, was a field with horses in it.

One evening before going to bed I went across to feed them sugar cubes. However, unbeknownst to me I had forgotten to shut the gate.

My mother was woken at three in the morning to horses clomping up the street and ruining all the gardens.

The police were alerted, but with no police station in Jedburgh, officers had to come from Hawick to round them up.

A lot of angry gardeners never knew it was me!
