Big Bingham blunder cost Accies dear
Hamilton manager Martin Canning admits striker Rakish Bingham’s failure to open the scoring in Saturday’s hammering at Hibs was a huge turning point. Bingham wasted an 18th minute chance to break the deadlock after having an effort saved by goalkeeper Adam Bogdan when a mistake by Hibs defenders Efe Ambrose and Ryan Porteous left the forward with a clear sight of goal. And the hosts more than made Accies pay after hitting six unanswered goals in a one-sided affair at Easter Road. Canning, whose team are three points clear of Premiership basement side Dundee, said: “I think it’s a different game if Rakish takes that chance and it gives them a bit of belief and confidence as well. “It would have made Hibs panic. “I’ve been on the wrong end of results in my career as a manager and player and when you give a good team the opportunity to go and relax and enjoy it you’re in big trouble, and that’s what happened. “Hibs were good, to be fair, and when you lose the goals we did it spooks you a bit. “You don’t want to go tight in case you get picked off and it becomes a vicious circle. “That was horrendously poor and I need to apologise to the fans who made the trip through.” New Hibs left-back Miguel Nelom replaced captain David Gray in the 82nd minute to make his debut after signing a one-year deal last month. The Netherlands internationalist, who has spent the last seven years at Dutch top-flight outfit Feyenoord, was thrilled to make his maiden appearance in such an emphatic win. He said: “When I came here I wasn’t game fit but it was nice to make my debut. “I am not worried about the challenge of getting into the team, I’m happy the team is doing well and I was happy to make a contribution. “I’ve had time to adapt to a new country and get myself fit and today was the right moment to get some minutes.”
