Gary Naysmith gave his Queen of the South players credit for pulling themselves back from a three-goal deficit to salvage a point and deny Alloa their first league victory of the season. But he salted their early play: “We were off it in that opening 25 minutes when we lost the goals, and we got a point, thanks to Stephen Dobbie. “He carried us today because we were poor in too many things to mention and I’m not happy getting a point.” Alloa had stung Queens in just three minutes when the Dumfries defenders failed to clear a free kick from the left and, as the ball bounced around the goalmouth, Iain Flannigan fastened on it to fire home from close range. And in just 15 minutes they were two up with Connor Shields crossing for Kevin Cawley to head past the helpless keeper. Queens just could not seem to get it together and their defence was caught flat-footed in 25 minutes when Scott McTaggart broke down the right and Shields raced in for a well-placed header which gave keeper Alan Martin no chance. The Dumfries side eventually did put a move together 10 minutes before the break when Dobbie and Lyndon Dykes interchanged on the edge of the box for the Dumfries striker to crack home a 20-yard drive. And two minutes before the whistle the striker was again on target with a solo effort as he threaded his way past three men to smash the ball home from close range. There was little between the side after the restart but the Dumfries men equalised in the 70th minute. Yet again it was Dobbie, notching another hat-trick, as he ran on to a ball on the edge of the box and shot home to draw his side level. Both sides went all out for a winner and play swung from end to end but the defences had tightened up and there were few chances in front of goal. Alloa boss Jim Goodwin was obviously disappointed at the final outcome: “To be three up was quite incredible and I’m really, really disappointed at the goals particularly the second which was a sloppy error.”
