I’m happy to help my hero have fun and raise funds

- BY NICOLA STURGEON

Launching Oor Wullie’s Big Bucket Trail, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon pays a personal tribute to the spiky-haired schoolboy once voted the nation’s favourite Scot.

Like so many people, I grew up with Oor Wullie. He was part of my childhood and, if I’m being really honest, he has been a big part of my adulthood as well.

I always think that there is a wee bit of Oor Wullie hidden in all of us.

The first Bucket Trail attracted interest at home and around the world. People of all ages had a brilliant time seeking out the different statues. It really encouraged individuals and families to enjoy and explore Dundee and Perthshire, and it raised an awful lot of money for good causes.

So I’m delighted that the Bucket Trail is being revived and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever.

People everywhere will get the opportunity to enjoy the trail.

It’s a lot of fun but it is for a very serious purpose.

The target is to raise £2 million for Scotland’s national children’s hospital charities.

Any initiative that raises money for these wonderful organisations is one that deserves our wholehearted support.

There is no better way of supporting it than by using Scotland’s best-loved character.

Everybody loves Oor Wullie so I’m quite sure the people of Scotland will get behind this idea and it will be a huge success.
