Tourists face Dam long wait for expenses

-

A couple has finally landed a refund from EasyJet – five months after their holiday flight was cancelled.

Ernie and Hazel Norrie, from Forfar, had booked a five-day break to Amsterdam in April.

But when they got to Edinburgh Airport for their outward flight, all the planes going to the Dutch capital had been grounded due to bad weather in The Netherlands.

The couple were disappointed but cheered up when EasyJet put them up in a hotel in Edinburgh for the night and arranged for them to be on an alternative flight the next evening.

“It was our first trip to Amsterdam and although a day of our holiday had already gone, we were determined not to let the delay spoil things,” recalled Ernie.

During the delay period, the couple spent £52 on taxis and meals.

On their return they duly put in a claim to EasyJet to have the money reimbursed, as advised by the airline.

However, they were left tearing their hair out when, four months later, they still hadn’t received the money.

“My wife sent the airline numerous emails and made several phone calls but we were just getting nowhere,” said Ernie, a 70-year-old retired forklift truck driver.

“It wasn’t a lot of money but we were due it.

“We kept being told the cash was on the way but it never arrived.”

In frustration, the couple wrote to Raw Deal.

Within days, EasyJet refunded Ernie and Hazel for the full amount.

“We can’t thank Raw Deal enough for sorting this out for us,” said Ernie.

“If it hadn’t been for your intervention I am convinced we would never have seen a penny.”
