Ying, yang and a trolleyful of biscuits...

▼ FIRST DATES, ChAnnEl 4

First Dates has made it to an 11th series – but that’s no surprise. It serves as proof that you CAN fall in love at first sight – well, sometimes!

Last Monday’s episode had the usual laughter, tears, nerves and chaos that comes with trying to find a partner.

First up was self-confessed “dapper rapper” Lee, searching for the “ying to his yang”. It was a joy to watch him laugh and joke with his beautiful date, Abbi. For a minute, I thought the party animal had met his match.

He told “a cup of tea and an early night” fan Abbi about his dad passing away – and wanting to find a love as strong as his parents had. But in the end, he decided not to see her again, as their lifestyles were too different.

Also looking for love was Deanna, 75, who divorced her second husband 20 years ago and came to the restaurant with her shopping trolley filled with crisps, biscuits and apple pie. She told her date, Alex, how her first husband had a woman on the side, and actually asked her if the woman could move in with them. Sadly, Deanna said she wouldn’t meet Alex again – because he talked to the waiter too much.

But I was reaching for the tissues at the end, when Lee, realising he’d been a fool to let Abbi go, arranged to meet her for afternoon tea – with a glass of prosecco of course.

True love conquers all.

▼ BRITAIn’S BUSIEST, ITV

Ever see a single shoe at the side of the road and wonder how it got there? And who’s going to pick it up?

Britain’s Busiest has the answers. The documentary follows workers on the M25, who work tirelessly to keep the carriageway clear, but go unnoticed by drivers in traffic jams.

I’ll definitely give these unsung heroes a thought next time I get behind the wheel.
