We did noth­ing wrong ...but are in­ves­ti­gat­ing

Po­lice Scot­land – sup­ported by po­lice con­duct watch­dogs – in­sist their of­fi­cers acted “ap­pro­pri­ately” when al­low­ing Scott Calder to wan­der off alone, af­ter be­ing warned he was at risk and vul­ner­a­ble.

His fam­ily were told the of­fi­cers tried in vain to es­tab­lish where he lived or where he was go­ing but dropped him off at a bus stop any­way. It is not thought he had his mo­bile phone or wal­let with him when left alone.

He was found dead on a beach one and a half miles away from the bus stop where of­fi­cers said they left him. It is not known how he got there.

His par­ents have ac­cused the po­lice of fail­ing to ad­dress their con­cerns or an­swer their ques­tions about the last hours of Scott’s life.
