Magpies keep tabs on Polish talent Piatek

Newcastle United are checking on Genoa’s, Krzysztof Piatek, with a view to making a move for the striker.

Toon scouts have made several trips to watch the Poland star, who can play up front or out wide. The 23-yearold only joined Genoa this summer in a £3 million switch from Polish side Cracovia.

He is attracting attention and is now valued at £14m after becoming the first player since the 1949-50 season to hit eight goals in his opening six Serie A games.

Meanwhile, on-loan Magpies striker, Salomon Rondon, wants to make his move from West Brom permanent.

The Venezuelan international scored his first two league goals for Newcastle in the 2-1 home win over Bournemouth before the international break.

Rondon, 29, has already moved his family to the north-east and said: “I’ve started scoring, and I have to keep working. I know I have to keep doing that to stay at the club.”

Callum Robinson has insisted the Republic of Ireland have nothing to lose as they head into tomorrow night’s Nations League trip to Denmark.

Ireland have already been relegated to League C as a result of Friday night’s 2-1 victory for the Danes over Wales in Cardiff and will have only pride for which to play in Aarhus.

But after a run of just one win in 10 games, and growing frustration over their brand of football, Preston striker Robinson has called for a response.

He said: “We have got to go there and be positive. Of course the fans come to watch and be entertained – that’s why they come.

“Obviously they feel a little bit disappointed at the moment with us, which is fair enough, but we have got to stick together as a group.”

The game will be the fourth meeting between the sides in a little more than 12 months with Ireland securing a creditable 0-0 draw in Copenhagen in the first leg of their World Cup play-off in November last year, before capitulating in a 5-1 loss in Dublin in the return.

There was another stalemate at the Aviva in the Nations League last month and Robinson knows he and his teammates will have their work cut out again.

He said: “Most of the players were over there then, so I think that will be positive going there.

“Denmark have got a lot of quality. They have got some good players and it’s going to be tough one. But the boys are going to stick together and, hopefully, go out there and get a good result.”
