Appeal as CCTV was off during NHS attack

-

Police have appealed for dashcam footage after a health worker was stabbed outside a hospital where the CCTV was out of action.

Community support worker Donna Marshall, 42, was attacked by a woman in the grounds of Ailsa Hospital in Ayr, close to a sign warning of 24-hour surveillance.

But NHS Ayrshire and Arran has admitted that security cameras at the site have not been operational for “a number of years”.

Chief executive John Burns said: “We have an ongoing review of how to make best use of CCTV across all our sites.”

The health board has also launched a “significant adverse event review” and is providing support to staff.

Police have now asked motorists with dashcams to check whether they may have captured key evidence around the time of the attack – 10am on Thursday.

Mrs Maxwell, a married mother of one from Irvine, Ayrshire, was helped by colleagues at the hospital and is in a stable condition.

One of her neighbours described her as committed to her job despite having been the victim of another assault at work last year.

A woman was arrested on Thursday over what was described as an unrelated matter. Police said she was “of interest to the inquiry”, but is not being treated as a suspect “at this time.”
