Many people have had their Christmas decorations up for weeks already. How soon is too soon to deck the halls?

-

With all the doom and gloom over Brexit, people need cheering up. But if you spread Christmas over too long a period, you lose the meaning and feel flat when it finally arrives.

Elizabeth O’Regan, Lincoln

Putting up decorations early dilutes the impact. It also seems to be a reason for retailers to offload more tat.

Ronald James, Angus

We never put decorations up till later as the cat tries to climb the tree and thinks baubles are for playing with.

Lorna Smith, North Yorkshire

I get fed up of my decorations after a couple of weeks – they are down by January 2.

Fiona Reid, Forfar

Trees are up for such a short time; it can be nice for children. If you live alone the attic is the best place for it.

Lorraine Anderson, Edinburgh

Putting decorations up before December is far too early.

Margaret Brown, Rutherglen

By the time Christmas comes the tree is a bit of a mess. Two weeks beforehand is about right.

Hamilton McLean, Harwood

I wait till the second week in December and take them down before January 6.

Linda Cox, Aberdeen

I’m already sick to the back teeth of the word “Christmas”.

Liz Kelly, Glasgow

If you have children, go with the flow!

Carol Whitehead, Prestwich

Middle of December is soon enough.

Bob Mitchell, Elderslie

This is no longer Christmas; it is the Americanisation of our traditions.

Hugh Mchardy, Keith
