Winter gritting
Borders Council bosses have warned future efforts to tackle snow and ice and keep traffic moving will need to be scaled back. Infrastructure manager Brian Young said that while this winter will see a similar level of provision to last year, this will not continue. “As a consequence of considerable financial restraints, it is likely that significant changes will be required.”
Southern Reporter Legal aid fears
Concerns have been raised over the legal aid system, with the number of solicitors who have withdrawn from providing cover in Scottish police stations increasing fourfold. Falkirk district has seen eight advocates pull out from the region’s duty rota in 2018 after new rules – deemed “not financially viable” by local solicitors – were introduced by the Government.
