Newborn found dead

The body of a newborn baby was found on a beach in Ireland yesterday.

The discovery was made shortly before 10am yesterday in Balbriggan, north of Dublin.

The site was sealed off while a forensic examinatio­n took place. The sex of the baby was unknown.

Irish police have concerns about the wellbeing of the baby’s mother and are asking her to come forward.

A Gardaí statement said: “We are investigat­ing the discovery of the body of what appears to be a newborn baby on a beach at Balbriggan, County Dublin.

“The discovery was made shortly before 10am on Saturday. The scene is currently sealed off.”
