Jose: lucky liverpool

United boss fires a stinging broadside ahead of the Anfield showdown

- By Adam Lanigan

Jose Mourinho has stoked up the fire ahead of today’s clash with bitter rivals Liverpool by branding them ‘lucky’.

Victory would send Jurgen Klopp’s team back to the top of the Premier League and create a 19-point chasm between them and Manchester United.

But the Old Trafford boss insists that fortune has favoured their opponents over the past couple of weeks.

He cites the 96th-minute winner against Everton, thanks to Jordan Pickford’s shocking mistake, an offside first goal at Bournemouth last Saturday and an injury-time miss by Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik as moments that have gone Liverpool’s way.

“Liverpool have this feeling of being the ‘lucky ones’, where everything goes in your direction,” said Mourinho.

“They know how they beat Everton. They know in the last match the opening goal was offside. And they know that against Napoli, they could be out in the last seconds.”
