Uni’s red revelation

Researchers at the University of Edinburgh have revealed the mystery behind red hair.

Previously thought to be the result of just one gene, academics now believe as many as eight genetic differences could play a part in creating scarlet tresses.

The study looked at the DNA of 350,000 people, and is the largest project to attempt decoding the genetics of hair colour.

In Scotland, 13% of the population are ginger.
