Linda would be thrilled...she loved Glasgow
Paul McCartney is thrilled his late wife’s photographs are going on show in Glasgow.
On July 5, The Linda McCartney Retrospective will be staged at Kelvingrove Art Gallery.
He first met Linda on May 15 1967, at a Georgie Fame gig in the Bag O’Nails club in London.
Linda was on assignment for a book called Rock And Other Four Letter Words, taking pictures of “swinging London”.
“She passed our table and I was blocking her exit,” said Paul in Many Years From Now, his autobiography.
“I introduced myself and said, ‘We’re going to another club, would you like to join us?’ That was my big pulling line. But it worked.”
Romance blossomed and the couple married two years later. They had three children – Mary, Stella and James – and Paul adopted Heather, Linda’s daughter from a previous marriage.
It’s said they only spent six nights apart during their happy 29-year marriage.
Linda was also a prominent animal rights activist. She launched her own vegetarian food range and wrote several best-selling veggie cook books. She died from breast cancer in 1998.
“I met Linda early in her career. I saw her photos essentially when we started going out together. I knew her work inside out,” said Paul.
“So it’s lovely it’s being exhibited in Glasgow. Linda would have loved it too as she always loved the town.
“We drove through Glasgow a lot while we were going down to our house in the Mull of Kintyre. We were very familiar with the route from to Glasgow then down to Argyll.
“We did that journey a lot of times. Linda would be very proud to be having an exhibition at Kelvingrove.”
