Bed buyer can finally sleep easy

-

Diane Murray can finally get a good night’s sleep – and with an extra £70 in her pocket.

In August she bought a new mattress from national retailer Bensons for Beds for £700.

“I was advised to get a soft one for my build, although I wanted a firm one,” said Diane. “I was told I could change it after 40 nights if I wasn’t happy and that’s what I ended up wanting to do because the mattress was dipping and I couldn’t sleep on it, as it was too soft.”

Bensons sent an inspector out to check the mattress over for any faults but couldn’t find any.

Diana, from Kendal, Cumbria, went ahead and ordered a new mattress from the company anyway but was fuming when she had to pay an extra £70 to change it.

“I wasn’t happy with the new mattress as it seemed too soft as well,” she said.

“I wanted at least the extra £70 refunded but I was told it wouldn’t be possible and if I had any further issues I should complain to the furniture ombudsman.”

Diane wrote to Raw Deal and we contacted Bensons on her behalf.

The company then acted quickly and has given Diane her £70 back.

A spokesperson for Bensons for Beds said: “We were very sorry to hear of Mrs Murray’s discomfort, and arranged for an independent inspector to visit her home to check her mattress for a manufacturing fault.

“No fault was found, but we offered a reselection as a gesture of goodwill.

“Unfortunately, Mrs Murray reported a concern regarding her new mattress. We arranged for an independent inspection of the new mattress, but again no fault was found. In the spirit of resolution, we have refunded the 10% fee Mrs Murray paid for the reselection.”
