Wedding dress left Sandra impressed

- By Bill Gibb

EVERY bride wants to look a million dollars on their wedding day, and Emmerdale star Sandra Marvin was no different.

In fact Sandra, who plays Jessie Grant in the ITV soap, reckons her marital outfit was so good she fancied staying in it.

“They asked my opinion on a couple of things but obviously it’s Jessie’s dress, not mine,” Sandra told iN10.

“It’s a beautiful gown that was made especially.

“It’s gorgeous antique gold lace and I felt so glamorous wearing it I didn’t want to take it off.

“I was threatening to go shopping to Tesco in it!”

It was such a winner with Sandra that she was even happy to shrug off the cold during some long, chilly outdoor filming days.

The Christmas Day episode features the wedding of Jessie and Marlon Dingle, played by Mark Charnock.

And, in best soap tradition, it’s guaranteed to be anything but a hassle-free affair.

“Lots of things go wrong in the run-up including the dog eating the wedding cake, making her think the whole thing is cursed,” laughs Sandra.

“Even as we come to Christmas Day we don’t know if they’ll make it down the aisle.

“There are a lot of family and community involved and it’s a real big Christmas wedding with a twist – I just hope these two characters get a happy ending.”

Being at the very heart of the story on such a big day is something Sandra, who only joined the show last year, says she never expected.

“It is very exciting and I

was surprised when we were told about it,” she admits.

“I’ll be watching on the day with my sister, who’s a big Emmerdale fan.

“She is very good at just wanting to watch without knowing what is happening.

“She doesn’t look for spoilers and doesn’t even try to get it out of me.”

Sandra, who has appeared in numerous West End productions, is also a singer.

The demands of Emmerdale’s filming schedules mean that’s had to take more of a back seat and she’s only fitting in occasional shows of her own when she can.

But she has worked with loads of big names, including backing Kate Bush on her Before The Dawn shows in 2014, her first for 35 years.

“When we auditioned we didn’t know what it was for,” added Sandra.

“It was only when we were told we had it that she came out and we realised.

“It was a brilliant experience, especially as I’m a fan.”
