Slavishly adapted from Disney’s classic 1950 animated musical, Kenneth Branagh’s liveaction version of the fairytale romance doesn’t skimp on the magic. With a host of stars including Lily James as Ella and Bodyguard star Richard Madden as the Prince, this retelling of a hugely famous story is set to enchant viewers.

When Riley turns 11, her parents relocate and her emotions clash and are expelled from Headquarte­rs.

The Revenant BBC2, 10pm, New Year’s Day

Explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) guides a team of 19th-Century fur trappers and hunters.

When Glass is injured in a mauling from a grizzly bear, a sequence of events leave Glass vowing for revenge against the man who killed his son and left him for dead.

The Inbetweene­rs 2

E4, 9pm, Wednesday

On New Year’s Day, Channel 4 celebrated 10 years of Inbetweene­rs, and now E4 is getting in on the act.

Despite getting a place at Bristol University, Will (Simon Bird) is still chronicall­y uncool.

It’s great to have the boys backs for this very funny sequel.

Hot Fuzz

ITV2, 9pm, Thursday

Chief Inspector (Bill Nighy) transfers PC Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) to the sleepy West Country backwater of Sandford.

Nicholas meets the locals, and soon discovers Sandford harbours at least one psychopath.

Hot Fuzz is a hugely enjoyable romp in the countrysid­e.

In this big-screen version of Stephen Sondheim’s fairytale musical, the Baker (James Corden) and his wife (Emily Blunt) yearn for a child but cannot conceive.

A witch (Meryl Streep) promises the couple a family if they bring her four objects...

Light comedy and heart-rending tragedy skip hand in hand.
