Sir Kenny hails Murray’s ‘unbelievable’ sporting achievements

-

Sir Kenny Dalglish said: “I think Sir Andy Murray has had a career that he can be proud of. He has served his sport well, his country well and been a fantastic ambassador for both.

“His achievements have been unbelievable considering the era he has played in and being against three of the all-time greats in Nadal, Djokovic and Federer.

“For him to have won Wimbledon twice and other Grand Slams as well as two Olympic golds speaks volumes for his ability, mentality and dedication. Not only that, the sacrifices he will have had to have made for the best part of almost 20 years to get to the very top of his profession.

“But what makes his achievement more special is the fact it was an individual sport and not a team game.

“He had to achieve it all on his own and has never had anywhere to hide or someone to lean on when he was not feeling 100%.

“Also, when you look at his young life and what he has had to overcome from the tragedy at Dunblane it’s testament to his character and mental strength. Is he the greatest Scottish sports person of all time? For me, why does there need to be a league table? We should just enjoy and applaud the achievements of Sir Andy Murray and all the other successful people in sport. And finally, for me there was nothing wrong with him showing emotion and shedding a few tears during his media conference the other day. It showed that it was real and genuine.

“I hope Sir Andy enjoys his retirement whenever it becomes official. One piece of advice I can give him, from personal experience, is that you never get day off when you retire!”
