Alloa manager Jim Goodwin was delighted with the three points from a very hard-fought match.

Speaking after the game, he said: “We got the rewards that our play in the second half deserved.

“I am delighted for the players who have worked so hard to get us to where we are in the league and, on the balance of play, we deserved the win.”

Alloa got off to a bright start with Dario Zanatta coming close to getting the opener.

The Canadian striker took on the Morton defence and beat a couple of defenders before firing in a fierce shot from the edge of the box.

But his shot was stopped by the determined efforts of Ryan Scully in the visitors’ goal.

However, it was Morton who succeeded in breaking the deadlock and they scored the opener when Charlie Telfer fired in a speculative shot from 25 yards out.

Alloa fans and players alike thought that they should have had a penalty awarded in the closing minute of the first half when Ryan Scully seemed to push Alan Trouten to the ground as Trouten ran in on goal.

But the referee, who was having a poor game, waved away all appeals from Alloa players.

Alloa were awarded a penalty midway through the second half when Morton goalkeeper Ryan Scully was shown the yellow card for commiting a foul on Trouten inside the box.

Trouten calmly stepped up and fired home past Scully to level the score.

The Wasps then went on and stung Morton with a second goal late in the second half when a cross from Dario Zanatta was knocked into the goal by Kerr Waddell for an own goal to give the home side a deserved win.

Morton manager Jonatan Johansson was very disappointed with the result and the performance.

Speaking after the match, he said: “We knew that Alloa would chase after us and we had worked for that, but the players lost shape.

“This is a poor result for us, our passing was sloppy and we gave away a bad goal, then a terrible goal to lose the match”.
