Revolutionary who inspired biscuits, beards and rugby

It’s something I’ve heard mentioned on the news a lot when they talk about President Trump and the Mueller report, but what exactly is a Grand Jury? – J.

A Grand Jury is a group that will examine accusations against persons charged with crime and, if they decide the evidence warrants it, they make formal charges on which the accused persons are later tried.

Jurors do not decide guilt or innocence, but if there is “probable cause”. Here’s something that’s bothered me since my Sunday School days – what language did Jesus speak? – D.

I believe most biblical scholars now are in agreement that Jesus would have spoken Aramic, which was the most common language in use in 1st Century Judea.

It is also thought that he would have known some Hebrew for religious purposes and even some Greek.

Ihave always called them squashed fly biscuits – much to the annoyance of my better half when I order them in a fancy tea room.

I know they are really called Garibaldi biscuits, but are they really named after an Italian general? – P.

They are indeed.

The biscuits consists of currants squashed and baked between two thin oblongs of biscuit dough, like a currant sandwich.

They were invented in the 19th Century, when they were known by a variety of names, including Golden Fruit.

In 1854, Giuseppe Garibaldi, an Italian patriot and revolutionary had been exiled to the United States, but was returning to his homeland, intent on creating a unified Italian republic.

His ship docked in South Shields, where he was given a hero’s welcome and a public subscription raised enough money to buy him a golden sword.

In fact, he made such an impression that it seems, though I have no idea why, but people began to call the biscuit a Garibaldi.

Much more obvious was the style of his beard, which soon became known as a Garibaldi Beard.

This style of beard has a slight unkempt look and combines a moustache with a full beard that has a wide, rounded base at the bottom. The length of the Garibaldi should be around 6-8 inches.

And France and Italy compete for the Giuseppe Garibaldi Trophy in the Six Nations in his memory.

Which player (I’ve bet my mate £5 that it’s Germany’s Lothar Matthaus) has spent the most time on the pitch during World Cup Finals matches? – R.

If your friend had bet on Paolo Maldini, he wins, I’m afraid.

Maldini, over four World Cup tournaments in 1990, 94, 98 and 2002, was on the field of play for 2,217 minutes in a total of 23 matches.

Matthaus played more games, 25 over five tournaments, 1982, 86, 90, 94 and 98, but was substitute a few times. Does actress Jane Seymour use her real name, or has she taken a stage name, calling herself after the English Queen. –T.

Jane was actually born Joyce Penelope Wilhelmina Frankenberg and did call herself after the wife of Henry VIII.

She is probably best known for her roles as Bond girl Solitaire in Live And Let Die and on TV as Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman.
