It’s Rovers and out for emotional Kym

Kym Marsh is set to leave the famous cobbles of Coronation Street this Christmas – and she’s not the only character to be going out with a bang this week.

Britain’s longest running soap is set to kill off a character following an armed siege conducted by baddie Gary Windass’ former colleague Derek, pictured below.

It’s the first time Corrie has killed off a character at Christmas in its 60-year history.

Shona Ramsey and Robert Preston are tipped by fans to be killed off on December 25.

But we’ll have to wait for Christmas Day to find out who could be getting the bullet in the Rovers Return.

For Kym Marsh though, the goodbye she had on set was one of the most poignant moments in her 14 years on the show.

“It was very emotional,” she revealed. “My emotions had been all over the place ever since I decided to go, but it didn’t feel real. But, as the day got closer and I started packing up my things, and then I got my final script, it did hit me.

“I was so pleased that the final scene I filmed was in The Rovers with the Connor family and my real family were there to watch.

“When the scene finished everyone started clapping and I started crying. I got lots of gorgeous flowers, cards and presents.

“This show has been such a huge part of my life and to know that I had spoken my last words as Michelle, for now at least, was such a strange feeling.

“After the scene I went for drinks with my on screen family and my real family and some other members of cast.

“I had already had my leaving party the week before which was amazing.”

When asked what her fondest memory is, Kym was full of thanks for the cast and crew on Coronation Street, who she now considers to be more than friends – especially co-star Ali King, who plays Carla.

“I have seen everyone here more than I have seen my own family,” said the former Hear’Say star.

“I have made friends for life and although I will miss working with them I know that I will be keeping in touch with all of them.

“Ali King and I are like sisters and I am going to miss seeing her face every day.”

Meanwhile, Tina O’Brien, who plays Sarah Platt, admits she’ll struggle to get hold of the remote control on Christmas Day if her family have anything to do with it.

“I’ll be watching with my husband Adam and my children, my mum, dad and my grandma,” she said.

“I hate watching myself, I’m really bad, to the point where Scarlett and Adam don’t want to watch it with me because they say all I do is shout at the TV.”
