Scott to take Trump route to tie up a top-16 ranking

Scott Donaldson is taking a leaf out of world champion Judd Trump’s play book in 2020.

The rising Scottish star is struggling with his cue action due to, would you believe, his bow tie!

And promising Perth potter Donaldson will now swap to the style worn by runaway world No, 1 Trump, which sits flat under the collar.

“I’ve got a bit of a weird cue action,” revealed world No. 26 Donaldson.

“The way I address the cue ball, the cue sits to the side of my jaw instead of in the middle.

“It makes it really difficult sometimes because the cue gets caught in the bow tie and collar, and hampers my cueing.

“I’ve actually ordered some of those flat bow ties that Judd Trump wears and hopefully that helps.

“It’s something you try not to focus on, but it can get in your head and be frustrating.”

Donaldson says he might have to resort to practicing in full match attire to try to remedy the issue.

“I usually just practise in a T-shirt,” admitted the young gun.

“Obviously that’s not very restrictive and there’s no issue for me.

“But I might have to start wearing my full snooker suit in the club to get used to it.

“It’d probably look quite strange, though, walking into a snooker club with a waistcoat and bow tie on.

“But it’s something I might need to do to get over it.”

Donaldson has so far reached four major ranking semi-finals during his fledgling career.

And the ambitious Scot has big plans for the new year.

“I want to try to get into the top 16,” revealed Donaldson.

“I know how tough it is, and how big the gap is between the players around where I am in the rankings and the top players.

“But you’ve got to have aims, otherwise you’re just playing.”
