Jags re-sign Joe as they plan fight for promotion

Partick Thistle have agreed a new one-year deal with veteran winger, Joe Cardle.

The 33-year-old former Dunfermline and Ross County man has spent the last 18 months with the Jags.

Cardle, currently furloughed by the club, will form part of the squad attempting to get Thistle up from the third tier of Scottish football.

The Firhill outfit had their demotion from the Championship confirmed by the SFA’s arbitration panel last Monday, following a long battle which included a visit to the courts.

Maryhill manager Ian McCall said: “He’s a terrific trainer and has been looking after himself during the lockdown.

“So he’ll come back in terrific shape, with a real hunger to go out and perform on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon.

“Joe is a model professional with bags of experience under his belt.

“We’ve got some young players in our squad next season and he’ll be a great example to them in the dressing-wroom.”

Meanwhile, Peterhead have announced that six players are leaving.

Paddy Boyle, Cammy Eadie, David Ferguson, Scott Hooper, Jack Leitch and Jamie Stevenson have departed Balmoor.

Boyle and Hooper have joined ambitious Lowland League club, Kelty Hearts, managed by former Rangers and Scotland captain, Barry Ferguson.

League 2 favourites Queen’s Park have already invested heavily in their squad.

Now Spiders boss, Ray McKinnon, who has signed Lee Kilday, Michael Doyle and Bob McHugh, is promising more new faces for his inaugural full-time squad.

McKinnon said: “I am pleased with the signings we have made. But we need a bit more depth, especially in midfield.

“We are hoping to add another player – who has Premiership experience – and then get to work with the squad in August.

“We know that we will be a target, starting with our opener against Stirling Albion on October 17. Their recruitment has been impressive as well.

“Andy Ryan is an excellent striker, and one I was keen on back in January when I took this job on.

“Kieran Moore, who was with us last season, has been added, as well as Kurtis Roberts, Scott Roberts and Declan Byrne.

“And I know Albion are not finished with their recruitment.”
