Lee wears Hearts on his fists and would just love to have a tear-up at Tynecastle

A rematch with Kash Farooq at a packed Tynecastle would be a dream come true for Lee McGregor.

But the Hearts diehard admits he would have no problem fighting at Easter Road if his close pal and world champion, Josh Taylor, ever asked him to.

McGregor will pull on his new maroonand-white gloves on Wednesday when he returns to the ring in a closed-doors superbantamweight bout against Ryan Walker.

The British and Commonwealth champion has stepped up a division after claiming both belts last November in a barnstorming contest against Farooq.

There aren’t many fights that will encourage McGregor to drop back to bantamweight.

But an all-Scots rematch with Farooq would definitely be one of them – ideally at the home of his boyhood football heroes.

The MTK fighter said: “I can’t wait to get the new maroon gloves on. They look unbelievable.

“It’s still my dream to fight at Tynecastle one day. Maybe the Kash rematch could take place there, which would be amazing.

“Hearts are backing me all the way, and I’ve got them more involved now, so you never know.

“I feel that it’s only a matter of time now before we get that fight at Tynie.

“You’d want the fans there, of course, but when the time is right it will be incredible.

“But if Josh ever asked me to fight on the undercard if he got his own dream fight at Easter Road, then 100% I would do that too.

“I want the whole city of Edinburgh behind me – the whole country, in fact.

“I never wanted to separate Hearts and Hibs fans, or have Hibs fans not liking me.

“I’m just a boyhood Jambo, who’s loving that they’re now getting behind me.”

McGregor admits he struggled to make the weight before beating Farooq with a contentious points decision last November.

But he reckons after teaming up with a new nutritionist, his Glasgow opponent would have no chance in a rematch.

He added: “If

I’m going to keep pushing my body to make bantamweight, I’d like big fights as I’m not going to stay at this weight forever.

“This is the best I’ve felt for ages, and I want to win the European title.

“A rematch with Kash would definitely make me do it again, or maybe a fight with Paul Butler, who’s an ex-world champion.

“People have their opinions, and think Kash won that night.

“But that was his best chance to get his hand raised against me. Now it’s gone.”
