50 YEARS AGO

Celtic moved two points behind Aberdeen, with a game in hand, after thrashing Dundee 8-1 at Dens Park.

The reigning champions’ goals came from Harry Hood (2), Willie Wallace (2), Jimmy Johnstone (2), Tommy Callaghan and a Doug Houston (above) own goal.

Hibs beat Aberdeen to smash the Dons’ record of 12 consecutiv­e wins without conceding a goal.

Pat Stanton ended Bobby Clark’s shut-out run and Joe Baker, captain on his return to the club, added a second.

Davie Robb scored for Eddie Turnbull’s team six minutes from time.

60 YEARS AGO

An Eric Caldow penalty kick gave league leaders Rangers a 1-0 win at St Johnstone.

Celtic beat Aberdeen 3-1 at Pittodrie with goals from Charlie Gallagher, John Divers and Stevie Chalmers (above).

Kilmarnock trounced Ayr United 5-1 in the Ayrshire derby at Rugby Park.

On target for Killie were Jackie McInally (2), Ian Davidson, Andy Kerr and Billy Muir.

Albert Henderson, only signed from Dundee the previous day, scored for St Mirren in their 2-1 victory against Third Lanark at Cathkin Park.
