Tartan Army get an April D-Day

UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin has reassured the Tartan Army they will do everything possible to try to get supporters into stadiums for this summer’s Euro 2020.

Scotland co-host the European Championship along with 11 other countries after Steve Clarke’s side qualified for their first major tournament in 23 years.

Hampden will stage four games – our clashes with the Czech Republic and Croatia, the meeting between those two nations, and a last-16 tie.

UEFA chiefs were originally supposed to make a final decision next month on how many – if any – supporters will be allowed into stadiums for the Finals.

But with vaccines now being rolled out here and across the Continent, they have now pushed that decision day back to April to give themselves a better chance of getting fans into the venues.

And UEFA president Ceferin remains optimistic supporters will be at the games.

He said: “UEFA is committed to organising Euro 2020 in the 12 cities initially planned.

“I am optimistic that things will be very different regarding the virus as we get closer to the tournament.

“It is important to give host cities and Governments as much time as possible to formulate an accurate picture of what will be possible over the months of June and July.

“The fans are an important part of what makes football special, and this applies to both Euro 2020 and any match.

“We must allow ourselves the maximum chance to allow them to return to the stadiums.”
