Use your head and enjoy a true feeling of rest and relaxation

-

With spas and salons having to shut up shop during the Covid-19 lockdown, self-care has never been so important.

Searches for the phrase have been up 250% since the start of the pandemic, so it seems looking after ourselves has become essential in these unnerving times in the absence of having the professionals on hand to look after us.

In these turbulent times we need to find ways to soothe stress and create calm.

Authentic Beauty Concept’s brand ambassador and salon owner Joseph Ferraro says a salon-worthy scalp massage at home could be just the trick.

The concept

Joseph said: “Out of lockdown, my clients in the salon enjoy the Authentic Beauty Concept Memento Experience, which is a carefully crafted treatment to provide true relaxation by using massage techniques and sound-blocking headphones.

“However with salons off limits, you can recreate the experience at home using a few simple steps and massage techniques. It can be just as effective at creating a quiet, mindful moment.

“Stress can often manifest in the scalp so regular head massages can be an essential self-care ritual that can relieve tension whilst increasing blood flow to the hair follicles.”

Simple steps

Firstly, brush your hair and wet it all over. Take a few drops of the Authentic Beauty Concept’s Indulging Fluid Oil (£31) and add to your hair mask of choice.

The oil will work as a booster for the mask, increasing moisture and shine and conditioning the hair. Comb through gently with a wide-tooth comb.

With the balls of your fingertips, gently massage your scalp, using circular, zig zag and linear movements.

Close your eyes and always keep the movement as slow and as firm as possible.

Apply pressure behind the ears so press firmly but gently for 10 seconds. Then slowly move your fingertips to your temples and again press for 10 seconds, then move to your hairline above your forehead for 10 seconds.

...and relax

You should feel the tension slowly disappear from your scalp. Smooth the treatment down to the ends of the hair and massage in.

Wrap your hair in a warm towel and relax for at least 10 minutes. Finally, rinse out, comb and blow dry.

“Priming your hair is as important as priming your face as it helps to increase your style’s longevity,” says Joseph.

“Your hair will now have a new lease of life and feel refreshed while the tension is banished from your scalp.”
