Gardening show to grow its audience

-

Beechgrove presenter Brian Cunningham has told of his delight at plans to show BBC Scotland’s much-loved gardening programme in North America.

The gardening series – a staple on Scottish screens for 43 years – is to be shown there for the first time after rights were snapped up by North America streaming service BritBox.

Subscribers in the USA and Canada will be able to watch the programmes, filmed in the presenters’ own gardens across Scotland and in the actual Beechgrove garden on the outskirts of Aberdeen, every week shortly after they have aired in the UK.

Presenter Cunningham, who is also head gardener at historic Scone Palace Gardens in Perthshire, said: “It is amazing to think that people across the USA and Canada are going to be watching Beechgrove.

“It is mind-blowing to think that we are going to have this international audience, but I think and really hope they will love it.

“We are making the programme for the audience here but I think the viewers in Canada and America will enjoy this window into our gardens.”

Beechgrove first screened in 1978, since when 1,000 episodes have been broadcast.
