First minister: Thanks to the faithful at Easter
The first minister has used her Easter message to thank Scotland’s faith communities for their contribution during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Nicola Sturgeon acknowledged that the lockdown, which has seen churches and other places of worship close, has had a huge impact on regular attendees.
Sturgeon said restrictions on capacity in churches “mean this Easter still won’t be completely normal for Christians across our country”.
The first minister said: “The sacrifices made by Scotland’s faith communities over the last year have been enormous.
“Looking back on the last year, I have been deeply moved by the work of Christians in Scotland, who have come together to help those in most need during these difficult times.”
“Our Christian community extended a hand of friendship and support to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable in our society.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your service.
In his Easter message, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar said there is now a “sense of hope and optimism”.
