Mumps is on the rise

-

Cases of mumps soared last year leading to increased concerns that the MMR vaccine wears off over time.

There were 853 Scottish cases in the first three months of 2020 before lockdown halted the spread. The figure was up from 784 cases for the whole of 2019.

A report by Health Protection Scotland said the increase may be down to the Measles Mumps and Rubella jab reducing in effectiveness as time passes.

In Scotland, mumps most commonly affects those aged between 17 and 34.
